Whether you are planning an annual corporate retreat, launching a clothing line, coordinating an event, or ordering limited prints for a local club, getting custom t-shirts right requires a balance of design clarity and technical preparation. This guide breaks down exactly what you need before placing your order.

1. Defining Your Pre-Print Requirements

Before a single drop of ink touches fabric, clear specifications prevent delays, costly re-runs, and unexpected results. Provide your production team with the following details early in the process.:

Fabric & Knit Specifications

For breathability in corporate settings, high-quality 100% Cotton or Polo Matty fabrics are ideal. Ensure your vendor knows your choice, as Direct-to-Film (DTF) works seamlessly across cotton and poly-blends, while sublimation demands high polyester content.

Quantity & Size Distribution

Always maintain an exact count categorized by size (S, M, L, XL, XXL). Bulk orders often allow cost efficiencies across screen setup charges, whereas smaller runs are exceptionally well-suited for high-resolution digital print processes.

Placement and Dimensions

Do not leave sizing to guesswork. Specify exactly where your branding should sit. Common placements include:

  • Left Chest: Standard for corporate uniforms (typically 3.5" to 4" wide).
  • Full Front / Full Back: Centered bold graphics (typically 10" to 12" wide).
  • Sleeve Prints: Subtly positioned on the right or left sleeve cuff for modern branding.

2. Why Vector Files Are Non-Negotiable

Even though this fact being common, it is still not known to a lot of buyers, that the best result in printing including t-shirt printing can be achieved by using vector files. Vector File of the design can be made in various softwares and programs like CorelDraw, Illustrator, Pro Create, Canva, etc.
On the other hand, raster files (example - images) are easily available and quickly created, but it has its own limitations, and should be avoided for t-shirt printing work.

The single most common cause of delayed production or blurry, pixelated garments is improper artwork formats. Understanding the difference between Vector and Raster files ensures your design prints crisp, clear, and exactly as intended.

The Vector Advantage in Production

When using screen printing, DTF, or sublimation setups, the machinery reads your file paths to determine clean cut-lines and edge limits. A raster image (like a downloaded JPEG) looks clean on a small phone screen, but when expanded to 11 inches across a t-shirt chest, the edges become jagged and fuzzy. Vector files guarantee razor-sharp lines and accurate curves on every single garment.

3. Color Matching: Speaking the Same Language

Computer screens display color in RGB (light-based), while textile printers use inks. To ensure your corporate brand colors look identical on fabric as they do on your website, utilize Pantone Matching System (PMS) codes or exact verified color mixes. If your logo uses a specific navy or coral shade, providing the hex code or PMS number helps the print technicians match the output perfectly.
